Probation Leads Check of Local Sex Offenders

Unannounced visits to evaluate compliance result in one court date

San Rafael, CA – The Marin County Probation Department and partner agencies recently contacted 19 registered and non-registrant sex offenders across the county to check on compliance with the terms of their probation. One offender admitted to violations of probation conditions and was arrested.

Unannounced searches were conducted November 10 by County Probation officers, Marin County Sheriff’s detectives, and California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation K9 units. Members of Probation’s High Risk Supervision Unit led the operation.

One offender admitted use of illegal substances and was arrested. After conducting a search of the same individual's residence, officers seized his electronic devices  for further investigation. A court date to address his violation is pending.

"Probation operations and regular client contact during these unprecedented times continue to be a Department priority to support our clients and to promote community safety,” said Probation Chief Marlon Washington. “These  operations are imperative to ensure sex offender adherence to registration requirements and overall probation and parole compliance.”
