Crews to replace boards on Mill Valley/Sausalito Multiuse Path starting January 4
San Rafael, CA – Two bridges along the Mill Valley/Sausalito Multiuse Pathway in southern Marin County are being renovated in January 2021. The project will result in short delays for pathway travelers for a week or slightly more time.
Marin County Parks, which maintains the popular pathway along Richardson’s Bay, contracted with Maggiora & Ghilotti Construction Company to handle the safety-related work. The $45,000 project is funded by Parks’ Measure A, a quarter-cent countywide sales tax.
Crews plan to employ traffic control measures so workers can replace old wooden boards. All boards will be cut to length offsite to speed up the project. Construction is to be performed weekdays, and crews will wait until the bulk of morning travelers – cyclists, pedestrians, and equestrians – have passed through the area. “People Working” signage will be posted in the area during construction hours, and nearby stakeholders are receiving notification from Parks personnel.
Decking on two other bridges spanning Coyote Creek was replaced in fall 2019. Bridge approaches were upgraded in early 2017, and bridge railings were repaired in late 2015.
“This work continues phased improvements on pathway bridges that began in 2015,” said Marin County Parks Superintendent Brian Sanford. “We are doing our best to minimize disruption along the pathway, emphasizing safety during construction. This work helps address deferred maintenance on bridges used regularly by the pathway's many travelers.”
Pathway travelers should also observe caution and detour signs along the pathway at two other locations. Starting next week, the Marin County Flood Control & Water Conservation District has scheduled Subtronic Corporation to conduct pothole excavation work along the pathway near Gate 6½ Road in Sausalito. Through October 2021, the City of Sausalito will implement a public safety project at the intersection of Bridgeway and Gate 6 Road.
