Elections Closes In on Finishing Ballot Counting

Manual tally starts March 18

San Rafael, CA – The Marin County Elections Department has counted 99 percent of the vote-by-mail ballots from the March 3 Presidential Primary election, and the only ones left require voters to fix a signature problem – either a missing signature on the ballot envelope or a mismatched signature.

Elections Department staff is processing 6,000 provisional ballots that were dropped off at the polling stations and require special handling to ensure voters haven’t voted twice.

Following California Elections Code §15360, Marin County’s election official will randomly select at least 1% of the ballots cast at the polls and by mail. The random selection of ballots will take place at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 18, in the Elections Department. It is in Suite 121 of the Marin County Civic Center, 3501 Civic Center Drive, San Rafael.

The manual tally of the ballots selected will begin immediately thereafter and is a public process. The Elections Department website includes a  complete description of the post-election canvass, including the manual tally process.
