November Ballot Includes Several Local Measures

August 17 is the deadline for written arguments in favor or against a measure

San Rafael, CA – Marin County residents will have the opportunity November 3 to vote on local measures that include school and municipal issues. Written arguments for and against the measures may be filed before 4:30 p.m. August 17.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Marin County Elections Department will accept filing by email only during regular business hours — weekdays, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Other rules apply so call 415-473-6437 for information and the email address.

The measures on the November ballot are:

  • A special tax for Shoreline Unified School District and a special tax for Tamalpais Union High School District, both for educational purposes;
  • A bond measure for Sausalito Marin City School District for school improvement projects;
  • The City of Novato increasing the existing transient occupancy tax by 2%;
  • City of San Rafael increasing the local sales tax rate by .25% for nine years.

Arguments for or against the school measures are filed with the Elections Department by the August 17 deadline. Deadlines could be different for municipal measures that are handled by town or city clerks. Submission and signature forms are required at the time of filing.

The list of measures and information about filing arguments can be found at www.marinvotes.org. Documents are available for public examination for 10 days from the filing date. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, voters may request to receive copies by email. A sample ballot and information guide will be mailed to registered voters the final week of September, and official ballots will be mailed starting October 5 to all active registered voters due to the pandemic. Allow five to seven days for delivery.

The Elections Department is in Suite 121 of the Marin Civic Center, 3501 Civic Center Drive, San Rafael. The number of people allowed in the office at one time is limited and masks and social distancing are required.
