San Rafael, CA – Attention all fans attending Super Bowl watch parties: Remember to get a safe ride home after the game.
“Don't be another statistic,” Marin County District Attorney Lori E. Frugoli said. “Last year alone, Marin County saw more than 1,300 arrests for driving under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or both. Stay safe and have a sober driver for all your Super Bowl plans.”
Super Bowl LIV falls on Sunday, February 2, and local law enforcement officers will be on high alert and ready to flag those suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.
The District Attorney's Office wants to remind drivers that driving under the influence of anything that impairs is illegal, including prescriptions, over the counter or illicit drugs and marijuana. Keep in mind that combining alcohol and marijuana can have an additive effect on impairment making driving especially dangerous. If you take prescription drugs, be mindful of side effects, especially if there is a driving or operating machinery warning on the label.
If you’re hosting a watch party, have plenty of snacks and non-alcoholic drinks available for designated sober drivers. If a designated sober driver decides to have a drink, make sure someone else who hasn’t been drinking is available to be the driver. Anyone who sees a drunk driver should call 911.
Walking to a bar or party? Walking impaired can also be dangerous, so have someone who is sober walk home with you.
