County Fair Theme: The Soaring 2020s

This July in San Rafael, it’ll be a celebration of all things that soar

NOTE: Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 Marin County Fair was canceled on April 15. The next fair will be July 1-5, 2021.

San Rafael, CA – The 2020 Marin County FairThe Soaring 2020s – will pay tribute to a new decade of imagination and innovation and celebrates the spirit of reaching for the sky and knowing that anything is possible.

Marin County Fair poster features caricatures of farm animals flying in an antique plane The 2020 fair poster was designed by Tricia George.
The theme during the fair, set for July 1-5 at the Marin County Fairgrounds in San Rafael, also gives a nod to the ideals of the Roaring ‘20s, a century ago, celebrating food, fun, and merriment.

Special themed exhibit categories will honor things that soar – birds, planes, kites, gliders, hot air balloons, and more. Other exhibits will include trends in design thinking, robotics, and technology and as always, showcase some of the things Marin values most in this community – art, agriculture, and the environment.

Returning fair classics are traditional carnival rides, free concerts, and fireworks every night over the Civic Center’s Lagoon Park.

“We are thrilled to be celebrating a new decade we are dubbing the Soaring 2020s!” said Marin County Director of Cultural Services Gabriella C. Calicchio. “We wanted to honor the Roaring ‘20s but take it a step further using the idea of soaring to elevate the arts and creativity throughout the county. We hope the theme provides inspiration for fairgoers to create, cook, design, and more, and launch the fair into the next decade.”

The fair poster was created from an original work of art by artist Tricia George, the Artist of the Year at last year’s Marin County Fair.

As always, the fair prides itself on being the Greenest County Fair on Earth with its solar-powered carousel and stage, commitment to water conservation, and a record of over 92% waste diversion to compost and recycling.

The fair’s headline music acts will be announced in spring 2019. Fair tickets will go on sale March 16.
