County Office Hours Adjusted During Holidays

Departments remain open mornings of Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve

San Rafael, CA – Foot traffic remains light at the Marin County Civic Center and other County of Marin offices during the COVID-19 pandemic, in compliance with Marin County Public Health and state Stay-Home Orders. All 22 County departments are in unison with efforts to limit the virus’ spread by helping residents conduct as much government business as possible by telephone or online. Those who require onsite services are encouraged to schedule appointments with County departments as needed to limit queues onsite as best as possible.

Visitors should take note that most County offices will be open the first half of the day on Christmas eve, then closed from the lunch hour through Christmas Day, resuming regular office hours on Monday, December 28. It will be similar a week later – with offices open the first half of the day on New Year’s Eve, with full observance of the New Year’s Day holiday, returning to normal business hours on Monday, January 4.

For those who need to process timely documents related to the ownership of real estate for a year-end 2020 recording date, same-day recordings need to be presented at the Recorder’s Office no later than 11:30 a.m. on December 31 without exceptions. The office is in Suite 232 at the Marin County Civic Center, 3501 Civic Center Drive, San Rafael. There is a secure document drop box outside the office as well. Documents that cannot be examined and approved for recording prior to the 11:30 a.m. deadline will be accepted for recording on January 4 or returned to the submitter. Recorder’s Office staff can be reached at (415) 473-6092.

Transactions at the County Clerk’s office in Suite 234 and the Assessor’s Office in Suite 208 are being handled by appointment only. Documents will be accepted for processing until 11 a.m. December 24 and December 31. The Assessor, Recorder and County Clerk offices will close at noon on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.

All 10 Marin County Free Library (MCFL) branches remain closed because of the pandemic, but curbside pick-up and drop-off services remain available, and there’s more assistance on the MARINet mobile app and thousands of eBooks and eAudiobooks available for downloading.

Although their administration offices will be closed, the Sheriff’s Office and Fire Department will be staffed throughout the holidays to ensure public safety and emergency services throughout Marin. Road crews and flood control crews from the Department of Public Works also will be ready to respond to infrastructure and emergency needs. In addition, the Department of Health and Human Services will continue to have 24/7 on-call staff though the holidays for crisis and emergency response.

The County of Marin wishes you and your family a happy and safe holiday season!
