San Rafael, CA – PG&E has notified the Marin County Sheriff’s Office of Emergency Services (OES) that Marin was removed from the list of counties expected to lose power during the proposed Public Safety Power Shutoff on Wednesday, November 20.
The notification came at about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 19, about 27 hours before a PSPS was expected to affect 23,345 metered locations in Marin.
Although Marin is unlikely to be affected by the planned outages, officials will continue to monitor the situation and update residents. Power outage projections are fluid and subject to change with little to no notice. OES staff said there is no guarantee Marin will remain off the list.
Marin residents should still prepare for future outages because the county remains threatened by future shutoffs as long as critical wildfire conditions exist. In fact, a Red Flag Warning – meaning critical fire conditions – was issued Tuesday for the North Bay mountains, including communities above 1,000 feet elevation in Marin. The warning is in effect from 4 a.m. Wednesday until 7 a.m. Thursday because of predicted strong winds in combination with low humidity and moisture levels.
