Officers team with other agencies on unannounced visits to Marin sex offenders

San Rafael, CA – The Marin County Probation Department and partner agencies recently contacted 36 registered and non-registrant sex offenders to check on compliance with the terms of their probation. One offender was found in violation of parole and two others are being further investigated after the sweep in Novato, San Rafael, and Marin City.

Unannounced searches were conducted December 9 by County Probation officers, Marin County Sheriff’s detectives, San Rafael police officers, FBI special agents, state parole agents, and California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation K9 units. Marin County Deputy Probation Officer Hugo Moreano of the High Risk Supervision Unit led the operation.

Twenty-five of the 36 offenders were searched for items that qualified as violations of their terms and conditions of probation. Several mobile phones were searched, and one computer was seized for more investigation. One probationer was found in violation of parole with an outstanding warrant and taken into custody.

“We take a team approach as we provide the highest level of supervision to the offenders with the highest likelihood of reoffending,” said Probation Chief Mike Daly. “Just like with our partnering agencies, it is our department’s objective to keep the community safe, occasionally through operations like this. Our department’s main goal is to make every effort to assist in a person’s rehabilitation.”
