San Rafael, CA – The Marin County Free Library (MCFL) has high hopes that a March 16 reopening of the Novato Library will give crews enough time and decent weather to repair its leaky roof.
The Novato Library underwent a renovation of its heating, ventilation and air conditioning units earlier this winter, but roof leaks have kept the branch closed.
On February 27, recent storms forced a delay for the second time. MCFL had planned to reopen the branch at 1720 Novato Boulevard on Saturday, March 2, following repairs, but the severe rain of February 25-27 prompted a new setback.
The branch underwent a renovation of its heating, ventilation and air conditioning units starting December 1, and it was reopened January 22. Subsequent roof leaks forced another closure on February 2. MCFL initially planned to have it reopened by February 16.
Meantime, extended branch hours at the South Novato Library at 931 C Street in the Hamilton neighborhood will continue. The hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and noon to 5 p.m. Sundays. MCFL is not charging fines for late materials.
“We appreciate the community’s patience, the support of the Marin County Department of Public Works, and our wonderful staff from Novato and South Novato for keeping our services to the community a high priority,” said MCFL Director Sara Jones.
The popup branch inside the Northgate mall in Terra Linda – originally a month-month experiment during the holiday season – remains open. A partnership between the mall owner, MCFL and the San Rafael Library, the popup branch inside a former shoe store is scheduled to continue operations through the end of March. The hours are noon to 8 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, noon to 5 p.m. Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
