County Vehicle Auction Begins March 30

Variety of cars, trucks and heavy equipment to be offered at below market rates

San Rafael, CA – A wide range of vehicles will be available for public purchase starting Saturday, March 30, when the Marin County Department of Public Works starts an online auction. The selection includes pickup trucks, heavy equipment, and various SUVs and cars.

A tractor that is available in the online auctionThis John Deere tractor is among the items for sale.
Surplus vehicles and equipment are being offered at below market value. The auction is hosted by www.publicsurplus.com, a secure auction website specializing in selling surplus government property to the public.

As Marin County is committed to environmental awareness and fiscally responsible spending, the County fleet continues to be reduced. Vehicles with high fuel consumption or excessive particulate emissions are being sold and, if possible, replaced by more environmentally friendly options. The County fleet includes over 90 hybrid and electric vehicles, with additional alternative fuel vehicles being added at every opportunity. Renewable diesel fuel and solar powered charging stations are also used to reduce the fleet’s carbon footprint.

The auction begins at midnight Saturday, March 30, and closes at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 6. Details about the auction items are not available or visible on the website until the auction begins. Vehicles with their corresponding service records are available for viewing Tuesday, April 2, through Thursday, April 4, from noon to 3 p.m. at the County Public Works Garage, 6 Peter Behr Dr., San Rafael.

All items are sold “as is” and all sales are final; it is the buyer’s responsibility to check the vehicle’s condition prior to purchase. Payment must be received by Public Surplus within five business days of the auction’s close, and vehicles must be picked up weekdays between 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. within five business days of receipt of payment.
