San Rafael, CA – As Halloween night approached, the Marin County Probation Department and partner agencies contacted 39 registered and non-registrant sex offenders and DUI offenders on Tuesday, October 30, to check on compliance with the terms of their probation. One offender was found in violation of parole and taken into custody.
Multiple law enforcement agencies assisted the Marin County Probation Department with the compliance check on October 30. Unannounced searches were conducted by County Probation officers, Marin County Sheriff’s detectives, police officers from Novato and San Rafael, state parole agents, and agents California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation K9 units. Twenty-five of the 39 offenders were contacted and 31 of the 39 residences were searched for items that qualified as violations of their terms and conditions of probation.
Not all offenders have search-and-seizure conditions as part of their parole, but all were still contacted and found to be in compliance with their terms and conditions. After checking phones and other electronic devices, 30 of the 31 searches conducted were found to be in compliance. Four cell phones and a tablet were seized for further investigation.
“It is the department’s objective to keep the community safe, especially at a high-risk time for offenders such as Halloween season,” said Probation Chief Mike Daly.
The Probation Department will continue to focus resources on and provide the highest level of supervision to the offenders with the highest likelihood of reoffending. The department’s main goal is to make every effort to assist in a person’s rehabilitation.
