Woodacre, CA – Three Marin County Fire Department firefighters were treated July 26 for burns sustained while fighting the Carr Fire in Shasta County. The firefighters were assigned to structure defense at the time of the incident. The engine’s personnel experienced a sudden blast of heat from vegetation adjacent to a structure.

The three firefighters were treated at Mercy Hospital in Redding. All three were evaluated for burns to the ears, face, and hands and later released. One firefighter was receiving further evaluation July 27 at UC Davis Burn Center in Sacramento.

The three firefighters were identified as:

  • Engineer Scott Pederson, age 37, 19 years with the department.
  • Firefighter Tyler Barnes, age 34, 4 years with the department.
  • Firefighter Brian Cardoza, age 26, 3 months with the department.
