San Rafael, CA – Voting at a polling place has been the long-standing preference for many voters, but operating a polling place requires people willing to serve their community on Election Day. Marin County could use a few more of them.
It takes more than 600 poll workers (shown during a training) to run a countywide election like the one scheduled for June 5.
Colleen Ksanda, the
Marin County Elections Department’s manager of poll workers and polling places, said it takes more than 600 people to help conduct a countywide election and support the democratic process.
“We are still a little short for June 5,” she said. “It’s OK if you’ve never been a poll worker before. We teach you everything you need to know, and you’ll be working as part of a team.”
Poll workers assist voters by collecting signatures in the roster, distributing ballots, directing voters to booths, and monitoring supplies. Polling places are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Election Day, and poll workers typically work from 6:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. and earn a stipend.
Poll workers must be registered voters in California or lawful permanent residents aged 18 and over. The Elections Department provides training the week prior to Election Day.
