San Rafael, CA – The nomination period has opened for federal, state and local offices in the June 5, 2018, Statewide Direct Primary Election. The nomination period started February 12 and ends at 5 p.m. Friday, March 9, with an extension to Wednesday, March 14, if an incumbent officeholder does not file.
The Elections Department is in Suite 121 on the first floor of the Marin County Civic Center.
Seats open for nomination include:
- United States Senator, U.S. Representative in Congress
- California State Assembly Member, California State Senator;
- State Constitutional Offices: Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Secretary of State, State Controller, State Treasurer, State Board of Equalization, State Insurance Commissioner, State Attorney General, State Superintendent of Public Instruction
- Superior Court Judges – Offices 1, 2, and 3
- County Board of Supervisors – Districts 1 and 5
- County Offices: Assessor/Recorder/County Clerk, District Attorney, Sheriff/Coroner, County Superintendent of Schools
- Almonte Sanitary District, Sanitary District No. 1
- Belvedere City Council, Corte Madera Town Council, Mill Valley City Council, Ross Town Council (municipal candidates must file nomination documents with their respective city clerk).
Candidates may pick up and file nomination papers at the Marin County Elections Department, Suite 121, Marin County Civic Center, 3501 Civic Center Drive, San Rafael. The hours are weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and until 5 p.m. Friday, March 9.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 5, 2018. The deadline to register to vote in this election is Monday, May 21.
A reminder for candidates: Campaign signs are not allowed in public right-of-way areas. They may only be placed on private property. If signs are placed within a County maintained right-of-way, they will be removed by staff and you may risk losing them. Candidates may contact town or city offices with questions about sign placement within town or city limits.
