Marin County Fair Prepares for Grand Opening

Employee labor situation will not affect fair operations

San Rafael, CA – The Marin County Fair’s five-day run is about to begin and will not be affected by a planned strike by some County of Marin employees. The 77th rendition of the fair runs from 11 a.m. Saturday, June 30, through 11 p.m. Wednesday, July 4, at the Marin County Fairgrounds in San Rafael. Labor negotiations continued Wednesday, June 27, and both parties were working hard to negotiate a contract.

“All carnival rides, performances, exhibits and agricultural shows will continue to offer full programming to our beloved fair-going community,” said Gabriella C. Calicchio, Director of the County’s Department of Cultural Services. “You may see some picketers on your way to the entrance gates, but once inside it will be All for One and Fun for All.”

The fair will not lose any essential services or programs due to the strike. The fair staff is committed to making the fair-going experience as seamless as in the past and continue the award-winning tradition the community deserves, Calicchio said.

Fair highlights include nightly fireworks over the Civic Center lagoon, household-name headliner recording artists, lots of other live entertainment, carnival rides, a barnyard and a petting zoo, and creative exhibits. All of that will be topped off with a delicious variety of foods and refreshing treats and beverages. Learn more at www.marinfair.org.
