The State of the County presentation can be found at www.marincounty.org/StateoftheCounty. It includes a video, infographics, short feature stories and more details about the County departmental highlights and achievements. The material is categorized by countywide goals: Healthy Communities, Safe Communities, Sustainable Communities, Environmental Preservation and Community Participation.

“We want to let our residents know of the important work we are doing to address their priorities,” said County Administrator Matthew Hymel. “We are holding ourselves accountable and striving to make Marin an even better place to live and work.”

The State of the County video was accepted by the Marin County Board of Supervisors on January 30, and Hymel hosted brown-bag lunch meetings with employees January 29 and January 31 to field questions. The online package also includes the annual report for fiscal year 2016-17 and a short game in which residents can test their knowledge of the County’s priorities for 2018.

“Historically, we would break up this information into different pieces –  past accomplishments in an annual report and the future priorities packaged separately,” said Laine Hendricks, Public Information Officer with the County Administrator’s Office. “This year we decided to present it together in one concise package. Residents might better appreciate our future focus when they understand the recent work we’ve accomplished.”

At this juncture in Marin’s history, the most important Board priorities for the coming year are ensuring ongoing fiscal responsibility, maintaining quality roads, addressing housing needs, developing fair and equitable solutions, and adapting to climate change.

The County staff works to improve transparency and encourage more involvement by residents in the democratic process. Opting for a brief, catchy multimedia package rather than a statistics-heavy annual report is part of an overall outreach program designed to make the County more understandable and approachable.
