Departments to be open mornings of Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve

San Rafael, CA – Most County of Marin government offices will be closed from the lunch hour Christmas Eve through Christmas Day and resume regular office hours on Wednesday, December 26. It’ll be similar hours a week later – a half day on New Year’s Eve and full observance of the New Year’s Day holiday, then back into a regular routine on Wednesday, January 2.

All 10 Marin County Free Library branches will be closed from 1 p.m. Christmas Eve through Christmas day. Likewise, all branches will close at 1 p.m. Monday, December 31, and remain closed Tuesday, January 1. The Novato Library is undergoing repairs and continues to be closed until January 22.

If you need to process timely documents related to the ownership of real estate for a year-end 2018 recording date, same-day recordings need to be presented at the Recorder’s Office no later than 11:30 a.m. Monday, December 31, without exceptions.

“We’re closing at noon and we need to give the staff enough time to process the documents before they enjoy the holiday season with everyone else,” said Rich Benson, the County’s Assessor-Recorder-County Clerk.

The Recorder’s office is in Suite 232 at the Marin County Civic Center, 3501 Civic Center Drive, San Rafael. Documents that cannot be examined and approved for recording prior to the 11:30 a.m. deadline will be accepted for recording on January 2, 2019, or returned to the submitter.

Transactions at the County Clerk’s office in Suite 234 will be accepted for processing until 11 a.m. December 24 and December 31. The Assessor, Recorder and County Clerk offices all close at noon on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.

Although their administration offices will be closed, the Sheriff’s Office and Fire Department will be staffed throughout the holidays to ensure public safety and emergency services throughout Marin. Road crews and flood control crews from the Department of Public Works also will be ready to respond to infrastructure and emergency needs. In addition, the Department of Health and Human Services will continue to have 24/7 on-call staff though the holidays for crisis and emergency response.

The County of Marin wishes you and your family a happy and safe holiday season!
