Stafford Lake Bike Park Now Open for Spring

Dry conditions enable Parks to reopen several bike park features

San Rafael, CA – With the rainy season nearing an end, Marin County Parks has officially reopened the  Stafford Lake Bike Park for the busy spring and summer season. The reopening is proceeding in stages, as protective erosion control features are removed.

The new bike park closed in January to prevent erosion during the winter rainy season. Areas now open to the public include the Gravity Zone Dual Slalom Course, both the Kid’s and Beginner’s Learn to Ride Pump Track, and the ascent portion of the Perimeter Trail. If weather conditions remain dry, Marin County Parks anticipates that the remaining trails in the park will be open within the next few weeks. A detailed trail map of Stafford Lake Bike Park is available on the Marin County Parks Website, and park visitors can call 415-473-JUMP (5867) or check the Park’s Facebook page to get the most up-to-date information on current conditions and closures.

In addition to trails, the bike park offers a picnic area and kid’s plaza where visitors of all ages and riding abilities can gather to socialize, watch riders, and enjoy the park.

The only public park of its kind in the North Bay, Stafford Lake Bike Park opened just west of Novato in August 2015. Widely recognized as a successful public-private partnership, the bike park has received more than $730,000 in donations from more than 200 contributors to date. Marin County Parks also received vital assistance from the Friends of Stafford Lake Bike Park, a nonprofit formed to support the initial construction and long-term maintenance of the park.

The Bike Park benefits greatly from volunteer efforts. There are still many opportunities to get involved throughout the year. Contact Marin County Parks’ Volunteer Coordinator Kirk Schroeder at 415-473-2823, or email KSchroeder@marincounty.org for more information.
