Registrar Says June 7 Election Results Official

Elections Department completes certification

San Rafael, CA – Marin County’s Registrar of Voters, Lynda Roberts, has certified the June 7 Presidential Primary Election and the official results have been posted. The certification will go before the Board of Supervisors on July 19 to accept the canvass of votes and declare the results of the election for races over which it has jurisdiction.

This election had 152,039 registered voters of which 103,012 voted, resulting in nearly a 68 percent turnout. This falls between the 2012 primary that was just under 50 percent and the 2008 primary that was almost 76 percent.

Roberts praised the hard-working elections team, including the extra-hire staff. “This election was especially busy,” she said. “Some days the phones did not stop ringing and our lobby was full of voters. I want to thank each staff member for providing responsive and professional service during this very hectic time.”

In addition to the 10 regular staff members, the department hired 30 temporary employees. “Not only did we have a lot of work related to the election, we were also busy verifying signatures on 10 statewide initiative petitions,” Roberts said.

The elections team will start now to prepare for the November 8 General Election. In the 2012 general election, Marin County’s turnout was over 87 percent, which was the highest in the state. “We expect a significant turnout again in November,” Roberts said. “Marin’s enthusiasm for voting in presidential general elections is a textbook demonstration of democracy. It is exciting to see a high turnout, and we know the voters want to see a quick and accurate count.”
