San Rafael, CA – This summer at the 75th Marin County Fair, visitors can enjoy a new version of a smartphone mobile application that builds on an award-winning app from last year’s fair.
The new fair app works with both iOS and Android devices.
Even before the 2016 fair, which runs June 30 through July 4 at the Marin County Fairgrounds in San Rafael, the app will serve as a guide for both iOS and Android devices. It’s brought to fairgoers by the
Department of Cultural Services in partnership with
Information Services and Technology (IST).
This year’s fair, with its theme What a Ride!, aims to reflect back on the event's storied history while continuing to serve as a leader in the nationwide fair industry, pioneering change and innovation in the field. The mobile app builds on the success of the Merrill Award winning, groundbreaking 2015 fair for which the app won first place for New Innovative use of Technology.
In addition to being packed with information, the app creates an interactive experience through a mobile scavenger hunt, a GPS-responsive map and social media links. Guests can find the perfect snack or meal, search for a baby changing area or a water fountain, or mark a parking spot on the interactive map so you can easily find your vehicle later.
"I love the fact that our fairgoers can get all the information about the fair right from their own phones," said Director of Cultural Services Gabriella C. Calicchio. “Innovation and creativity are always forefront as we strive to offer first-caliber everything from the arts, technology, agriculture, learning, exhibits and unique programs found nowhere else in the nation.”
Additionally, the mobile application helps the fair live up to its “Greenest County Fair on Earth” record, reducing the need to produce printed fair guides.
“Ultimately this app provides choice to the fairgoer to experience and learn about the fair, and also participate more by using their device,” said Wesley Hill, Principal Systems Analyst for IST.
