San Rafael, CA – Residents in some low-lying neighborhoods of Southern Marin are being sought as candidates for the Flood Control Zone #3 Advisory Board, which reviews flood control projects near Richardson Bay.
There is one opening on the board, and applicants must reside in and be registered voters of Zone 3, which includes parts of the City of Mill Valley and numerous unincorporated communities such as Alto, Sutton Manor, Almonte, Tamalpais Valley, Homestead Valley, and portions of Strawberry Point. Applicants for this particular seat are especially sought from Tam Valley in the Tam Junction and Kay Park areas, also affectionately referred to as Birdland because of streets named after birds.
The Marin County Board of Supervisors formed Flood Control Zone 3 in 1956 to address the vulnerability of the area adjacent to Richardson Bay to flooding from creek and tidal action. Maintenance activities include regular servicing of pump stations, tide gates, levees and drainage ditches, and an annual vegetation maintenance program. The advisory board reviews flood control projects, the proposed annual zone budget, and advises the Marin County Department of Public Works and the Board of Supervisors of its findings.
