Vote-By-Mail Ballots Are On Their Way

More than 98,000 to be mailed; still time to register to vote on November 3

San Rafael, CA – The Marin County Elections Office started mailing more than 98,000 vote-by-mail ballots on Monday, October 5, giving local registered voters nearly a month to fill out and send in their ballots.

An elections office worker handles a ballot.“The postmark matters!” said Registrar of Voters Lynda Roberts. “We can now process ballots that are postmarked on or before Election Day, as long as we receive them within three days after the election.”

Vote-by-mail ballots not returned by mail must be at the Elections Office or delivered to a polling place not later than 8 p.m. on Election Day, November 3.

Voters who do not receive a ballot in the mail but want to vote by mail in the November 3 local district election, known as Uniform District Election, may apply for a ballot in one of the following ways:

  • In person 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays or Election Day between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. at the Elections Department, Room 121, 3501 Civic Center Drive, San Rafael
  • Online at www.marinvotes.org
  • By phone at 415-473-6441 or 415-473-6444
  • In writing until October 27. Send a letter or use the application on the back of the voter information pamphlet. Mail to the Registrar of Voters, P.O. Box E, San Rafael, CA 94913-3904.

If you don’t receive your ballot by October 13, please contact the Elections Department right away. Not yet registered in Marin County? You have until October 19 to register for the November 3 election. Go to www.registertovote.ca.gov or call 415-473-6456 to request a voter registration form in the mail.

A Uniform District Election is an election held in November of the odd year for local districts that have not consolidated their elections with the November of even-numbered years.
