Help Shape the Future of Stafford Lake Park

Public invited to July 8 meeting to review initial master plan

San Rafael, CA – Hosted by Marin County Parks, the Stafford Lake Park master plan meeting on July 8 will be the next in a series of master plan workshops in which the public is invited to share their thoughts and provide input on the future of several Marin County Parks.

Located three miles west of Novato, the 139-acre Stafford Lake Park represents the county’s largest upland area with fishing, hiking, disc-golf and outdoor areas capable of accommodating large events for up to the 5,000. A new addition to the site, the Stafford Lake bike park is expected to open early fall.

Marin County Parks began the master plan process for Stafford Lake last summer. A series of focus group meetings and a community workshop in October helped to shape the initial concept master plan, a long-term planning document that establishes the framework and key elements of the site. Parks will present the initial master plan at the July 8 meeting from 7 to 8:30p.m. at the Novato Youth Center located at 680 Wilson Ave. The meeting will review the potential programs and improvements in the master plan and provide an opportunity for the public to give feedback.

The park was first developed in the 1970’s in the mostly rural area of West Novato. Though the park is now the region’s largest and host to tens to thousands of visitors every year, few improvements have been made since its establishment 40 years ago. Made possible by Measure A funding, the Stafford Lake Park master plan will guide the long-term improvement of the park’s infrastructure and recreational facilities.
