County Invests in its West Marin Service Center

Supervisors approve redesign of Health and Human Services location

Point Reyes Station, CA – What would a redesigned West Marin Service Center look like? Architects will host an informational meeting June 1 to discuss plans for the center in Point Reyes Station that serves clients of the Marin County Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

An exterior view of the West Marin Service Center in Point Reyes Station. The Marin County Board of Supervisors approved a design contract in the amount of $187,438 on March 31 with RossDrulisCusenbery Architects, Inc., to redesign the center to meet growing public needs at the rural outpost and continue to act as a community hub of essential services. Opened in 1972, the center staff has experienced increased demands for services due in large part to the Affordable Care Act, increasing caseloads for public assistance and an expansion in the area of mental health and aging services.

A facility evaluation study performed in 2014 concluded that the existing building did not have the capacity to meet community needs. The redesign will nearly double the size of the existing facility, from 3,175 to 6,032 square feet. Design and construction costs are estimated to be about $3 million. Design costs are funded through the County’s Capital Improvement Fund.

The June 1 meeting is designed to allow residents to learn more about the project and to provide input. It will be from 5:30-7 p.m. in the small gymnasium at the West Marin Elementary School, 11550 Highway One, Point Reyes Station.
