Make Your Vote Count in Tuesday’s Election

Reminders about your vote-by-mail ballot, polling station hours

San Rafael, CA – Tuesday’s election might be small in comparison to a presidential election, but it’s still important.

An elections office worker handles a ballot.“As a local election only, the candidates and measures to be voted on will directly impact Marin County residents,” said Registrar of Voters Lynda Roberts. “It does take some time to research the candidates and issues, but that is time well spent because your vote has such a strong local effect.”

The Marin turnout in the 2013 district election was 38 percent. “It would be great to double that number in this election,” Roberts said.

In-person voting is available until 8 p.m. at polling places or in the Elections Department, in Suite 121 at the Marin County Civic Center, 3501 Civic Center Drive, San Rafael.

Vote-by-mail ballots must be postmarked on or before November 3. If you choose not to mail your ballot, you may drop it at the Elections Department, deliver it to any Marin County polling place no later than 8 p.m., or use the convenient and secure drop box stationed at the main entrance to the Civic Center through 8 p.m. The main entrance is on Peter Behr Drive under the Civic Center’s south archway.

Roberts said she had one last crucial reminder for the public: Her staff must reject vote-by-mail ballots if the signature on the return envelope is missing or does not substantially match the signature on a voter registration card.

“Please don’t forget because the Elections Department wants every vote to count,” she said.
