The Humanitarian Award is presented to an individual whose community work exemplifies activism for human rights. The award is accompanied by a $1,000 stipend that is given to a nonprofit agency chosen by the recipient.

For the 14th year, the Human Rights Commission will honor a graduating high school senior with the MLK Jr. Youth Award. The recipient is selected for idealism and contribution toward promoting human rights, equality, and understanding. The winner will receive a scholarship award, generously provided by the Marin Community Foundation, to be used for post-secondary education.

Individuals, schools and community organizations are invited to complete and return nomination forms by December 18. The nominees must be strong advocates for human rights in Marin and live, work or attend school in the county. To nominate someone, contact Christine Shaw at cshaw@marincounty.org or 415-473-6189.
