Woodacre, CA -- Early Sunday morning, Marin County Fire Department dispatchers received several calls for a fire burning in a remote area near the town of Bolinas. The fire started in a eucalyptus grove approximately one-half mile north of Agate Beach and spread to within 100 feet of the shoreline.
“Had this fire occurred a little later in the season, or during the heat of the day, structures would have been threatened by flying embers” said Mike Giannini, Battalion Chief with the Marin County Fire Department.
Ironically, this fire occurred 11 years after the Mother’s Day fire in Tam Valley. That fire burnt 12 acres and also involved eucalyptus trees. Today’s fire also comes on the heels of Wildfire Awareness Week – an annual effort to inform residents in California of the inherent dangers of wildfire and to promote fire prevention and risk reduction strategies.
Assisting the Marin County Fire Department with the blaze were firefighters from the Stinson Beach Fire Protection District, Bolinas Fire Protection District, National Park Service and Cal Fire. In all, over 60 personnel contributed to the effort.
The fire was fully contained by 10 a.m.. Crews will remain on the scene for the remainder of the day mopping up hot spots. No structures were damaged and there were no injuries reported.
The fire appears to be ‘human caused’ and is under investigation.
