County to Auction Surplus Vehicles Online

Department of Public Works to offer deals starting February 14

San Rafael, CA – Sedans, work trucks, a mower and more will be available for public purchase starting February 14 when the Marin County Department of Public Works starts an online auction.

Ford Crown Victorias, a few Chevy work trucks, a bookmobile and even a boat are among the 11 sale items. All vehicles and equipment will be available through PublicSurplus.com, a secure auction website specializing in selling government property to the public.

As the County’s goals remain fixed on the reduction of unnecessary spending and the increase of environmental consciousness, Public Works is continually to make its fleet more “green.” Vehicles with high fuel consumption are sold and frequently replaced by hybrids or those with flex fuel options. The County fleet now has almost 70 hybrid and/or electric vehicles.

The auction begins at midnight, Saturday, February 14, and lasts until 2 p.m. Saturday, February 21. Details about the auction items are not available until the auction begins. All vehicles and the corresponding service records will be available for inspection Tuesday, February 17, through Thursday, February 19, from noon until 3 p.m. at the County Garage, 6 Peter Behr Dr., San Rafael. All items are sold “as is” and all sales are final; it is the bidder’s responsibility to check the vehicle’s condition prior to purchase.
