San Rafael, CA – The Marin County Ombudsman Program is seeking volunteers to help safeguard the rights of residents in nursing homes, residential care and assisted living facilities.
An informational presentation will take place on November 3 from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Marin County Health and Human Services (HHS) office, Suite 1018, 10 North San Pedro Road, San Rafael. It’s an opportunity to learn more about the program and find out how to get involved.
Volunteers will be asked to make at least a one-year commitment and donate a minimum of 10 volunteer hours each month, plus attend periodic team meetings. After an orientation session, volunteers will complete a 36-hour certification training program beginning in January 2015.
The training program provides information on issues in long-term care and the aging process, senior legal issues, community resources, financial issues and other related topics on the elderly. It also helps participants to understand the role of the ombudsman patient advocate.
The Marin County Ombudsman Program is a service of Marin HHS, Division of Social Services, Aging and Adult Services. Volunteers are supported by ombudsman staff members, who are trained advocates authorized by state and federal laws to visit nursing homes, residential care and assisted living facilities to ensure that residents are being treated with quality care, dignity and respect.
