San Rafael, CA – The Corte Madera branch of the Marin County Free Library is closing Thursday, November 27 and reopening Tuesday, December 16, for the final phase of a major renovation project to improve services and make aesthetic upgrades.
The Marin County Board of Supervisors approved the closure on October 21. Upon completion, the branch at 707 Meadowsweet Drive will feature renovations to the teen area, lobby area and technology upgrades. There will be a new single information desk to address all patron needs, new check-out stations and improved accessibility. The teen area will get new chairs and counters.
Earlier this year the Friends of the Corte Madera Library donated $30,000 to support upgrades to the meeting room that include a new audio visual system, study counter, paint and fans.
“Reaction to the remodeled meeting room has been very positive,” said branch manager Julie Magnus. “Many people have mentioned that they find the new space much more inviting and conducive to study as well as more enjoyable during programs. We look forward to expanding the improvements to the lobby to enhance browsing and make visiting the library a user-friendly experience for all.”
Books on hold will be available for pickup during the renovation in the branch’s meeting room from 3-7 p.m. on December 3, 4, 5 , 8, 9 and 10. The branch will be unable to take book returns during the closure and there will be no programs. No book donations will be accepted, but donations may be dropped off at the Friends of the Library Book Place at 1608 Grant Avenue in Novato.
The cost of the renovation is approximately $400,000. Funding comes from Measure A, which was passed by a supermajority of voters in 2010 to improve library facilities and maintain hours throughout the Marin County Free Library.
