Second Climate Action Plan Meeting Added

County staff to talk about greenhouse gas emissions April 14, April 29

San Rafael, CA – By popular demand, a second meeting about Marin County’s Climate Action Plan has been added by the County Community Development Agency (CDA) staff.

In addition to the meeting at 6 p.m. Monday, April 14, at the Marin Center Exhibit Hall, staff has added a meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 29, in the Board of Supervisors chambers at the Marin County Civic Center.

In its original Greenhouse Gas Reduction Plan, drafted in 2006, the County set an emissions reduction target of 15 percent below 1990 levels by 2020. Now, residents are being invited to learn more about the plan and contribute their input. Staff plans to provide details about the progress made in reducing emissions and give the residents a chance to provide input about what other strategies the County should consider to reduce emissions.

As part of the update effort, the County is completing an inventory of the greenhouse gas emissions from the unincorporated portions of the county in 2012 to compare with historic 1990 emissions levels to determine if the County is on track with original goals. The updated plan will review and revise the emissions reductions strategies to reflect current opportunities and constraints.

Funding for the updated Climate Action Plan is provided by the Marin Energy Watch Partnership between the County and Pacific Gas and Electric Company as part of the partnership’s work toward achieving long-term energy efficiency and greenhouse gas emissions reductions.

Marin Center Exhibit Hall is at 10 Avenue of the Flags in San Rafael, behind the Marin Veterans Memorial Auditorium. The Board of Supervisors chambers are at 3501 Civic Center Drive, Suite 330.
