For Immediate Release
June 24, 2013

Seats Available on Marin County Assessment Appeals Boards

The County of Marin is recruiting candidates with expertise in real estate, accounting, law and property appraisal as potential new members of its two Marin County Assessment Appeals Boards. The application deadline is 5 p.m. Aug. 23.

Appointed by the Marin County Board of Supervisors, the Assessment Appeals Board members hear appeals by property owners regarding value assessments by the County Assessor. In recent years, the caseload of the state-mandated Assessment Appeals Boards has necessitated hearings about every four weeks. Appeals are heard alternately by the two boards and might include additional meetings.

Candidates must have at least five years of professional experience in California as one of the following: certified public accountant; public accountant; licensed real estate broker; attorney; property appraiser accredited by a nationally recognized professional organization; property appraiser certified by the Office of Real Estate Appraisers; or property appraiser certified by the State Board of Equalization. Employees of an assessor's office within the past three years are not eligible.

Applicants must file documentation of qualifying experience with their application to the Clerk of the Board. Additional information is available on the County website and on the State Board of Equalization website. Persons interested may apply online or receive an application form by contacting the Clerk of the Board of Supervisors, Suite 329, 3501 Civic Center Drive, San Rafael CA 94903. Call 415-473-7331 for details.
