June 5 Election Results Official: Turnout 56%

Registrar thanks poll workers and staff for dedication and hard work

San Rafael, CA – Marin County’s Registrar of Voters, Lynda Roberts, said the June 5 Statewide Primary Election is certified and the official results have been posted.

The election had 155,517 registered voters of which 86,969 cast ballots, resulting in nearly a 56 percent turnout. More than 73 percent voted by mail. The turnout in the 2014 Statewide Primary Election was just under 41 percent.

The state-required manual tally confirmed that the equipment was counting ballots accurately at the polling places and the Elections Department where vote-by-mail (VBM) ballots are counted. The canvass of votes will be scheduled for the Marin County Board of Supervisors to accept at its July 10 meeting.

Roberts thanked the hard-working poll workers and elections team, including the help of extra hire workers.

“In addition to working efficiently and effectively in their areas of expertise, everyone supported all aspects of the process to ensure we fulfill our mission of providing responsive, transparent and professional elections to inspire trust and confidence,” Roberts said.

The Elections Department team is already starting to prepare for the 2018 November 6 general election. Recent changes in state law have allowed post-marked ballots to be counted three days after the election and allowed voters to register at the Civic Center and vote provisionally on Election Day. With those changes and increasing VBM trends, the Elections Department plans to explore options to speed up the post-election tallying process for future elections.
