NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN TO ALL QUALIFIED PERSONS that the Statewide Direct Primary Election will take place on Tuesday, June 5, 2018. The nomination period for the following federal, state and local offices will open on Monday, February 12 and end on Friday, March 9:
Legislative Offices
United States Senator, Term - 6 years
U.S. Representative in Congress – District 2, Term - 2 years
California State Senator – District 2, Term - 4 years
California State Assembly Member – District 10, Term - 2 years
State Constitutional Offices
Term - 4 years
Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Secretary of State, State Controller, State Treasurer, State Board of Equalization Member District 2, State Insurance Commissioner, State Attorney General, Superintendent of Public Instruction
Superior Court Judge – Offices No. 1, 2, and 3
Term - 6 years
Must be a member of the State Bar or judge of a court of record in California for the preceding 10 years. Must have filed Declaration of Intention by February 7, 2018.
County Board of Supervisors
District 1, Term - 4 years
District 5, Term - 4 years
Must be a registered voter of the district which he/she seeks to represent for at least 30 days immediately preceding the deadline for filing nomination documents for the office of supervisor. Shall reside in the district during his/her incumbency.
County Offices
Assessor-Recorder-County Clerk, Term - 4 years
Must be a registered voter in Marin County and have a valid appraiser’s certificate issued by the State Board of Equalization.
District Attorney, Term - 4 years
Must be a registered voter in Marin County and admitted to practice in the State Supreme Court
County Superintendent of Schools, Term - 4 years
Must be a registered voter in Marin County and have a valid credential issued by the State Board of Education
Sheriff-Coroner, Term - 4 years
Must be a registered voter in Marin County and meet criteria specified in Gov’t Code Sec. 24004.3.
Special Districts
Almonte Sanitary District Director, Term - 4 years
Sanitary District No. 1 Director, Term - 4 years
Must be registered voter in the district.

NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that the official Declaration of Candidacy forms for eligible candidates are available at the Marin County Elections Department, Room 121, Marin Civic Center, San Rafael, California, from Monday, February 12, to Friday, March 9, 2018. Candidates may file their Declaration of Candidacy forms weekdays between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. and until 5 p.m. on Friday, March 9, 2018. If an incumbent officeholder does not file for his/her office by March 9, 2018, the filing period will be extended for non-incumbent candidates for that office until 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 14, 2018.
NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that if there are no nominees or an insufficient number of nominees for any district office and a petition signed by 10 percent of the voters (or 50 voters, whichever is less) of the District requesting an election be held is not presented to the Elections Department, an appointment to the elective office will be made by the Board of Supervisors pursuant to Sec. 10515 of the CA Elections Code.

NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that all ballots cast at the polls in the Primary Election will be counted at the individual precincts and ballots cast by mail will be counted at the Elections Office.
NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN the first day to vote at the Marin Civic Center, and the first day for the Registrar of Voters to mail vote-by-mail ballots for the Primary Election is May 7, 2018. The Marin Civic Center is located at 3501 Civic Center Drive, Room 121, San Rafael, California, 94903.
