San Rafael, CA – Beginning November 16, the Marin County Elections Department will start the manual tally of the November 3 Uniform District Election.
Pursuant to California Elections Code §15360, the Election Officer – in this case, Registrar of Voters Lynda Roberts – will conduct a public manual tally of a random 1 percent of the precincts. The process will begin at 9:30 a.m. in the Elections Department, Suite 121, Marin County Civic Center, 3501 Civic Center Drive, San Rafael.
The random tally starts by rolling three 10-sided dice to select the precincts to be counted. In addition, a random selection of the vote-by-mail ballots is also made. For every contest not included in the original random sample, another sample is drawn so that every race is counted.
A complete description of the post-election canvass, including the manual tally process, is on our website. The canvassing process is conducted weekdays 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and is open to the public. For more information, call the Elections Department at 415-473-6456.
