November 3 Election Results Official: Turnout 35%

Elections Department completes certification, prepares for busy 2016

San Rafael, CA – Marin County’s Registrar of Voters, Lynda Roberts, announced today that the November 3 Uniform District Election is certified and the official results have been posted.

This district election had 143,352 registered Marin voters of which 49,653 cast ballots, resulting in nearly a 35 percent turnout. The turnout in the 2013 Uniform District Election was almost 38 percent.

Muir Beach Community Services District had the highest turnout with over 74 percent. The Town of San Anselmo, which included the race for town council, town clerk, and town treasurer, along with Measures D and E, had over a 52 percent turnout. Most of the contests had a 31-39 percent turnout, with 6 contests below 30 percent and 7 contests in the 40-48 percent range.

In noting that the election ran smoothly, Roberts credited the dedicated and hard-working elections team, including the help of extra hire workers.

“In addition to working efficiently and effectively in their areas of expertise, everyone supported all aspects of the process to ensure we fulfill our mission of providing responsive, transparent, and professional elections to inspire trust and confidence,” said Roberts.

The Elections team is starting to prepare for a heavy 2016 election cycle that will include the June 7 presidential primary and the November 8 presidential general elections. In the past three presidential elections, Marin’s turnout has averaged 89 percent.

“We know our turnout next year will be significant,” Roberts said.
