Offices on Ballot, and Candidate Filing Deadlines

March 5, 2024, Presidential Primary Election

This notice is published pursuant to CA Elections Code Sec.12109, 12112

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN TO ALL QUALIFIED PERSONS that the date of the statewide Presidential Primary Election is Tuesday, March 5, 2024. The nomination period for the following federal, state and local offices is open from Monday, November 13 through Friday, December 8, 2023.

OFFICES / TERM

United States Senator (full term) / 6 years
United States Senator (partial term) / Ends January 2025
U.S. Representative in Congress (District 2) / 2 years
California State Assembly Member (District 12) / 2 years
County Central Committee Member / Determined by Central Committee

Superior Court Judge (Offices No. 1, 2, 3) / 6 years
Must be a member of the State Bar or judge of a court of record in California for the preceding 10 years. Must have filed Declaration of Intention by November 8, 2023.

County Board of Supervisors (Districts 2, 3, 4) / 4 years
Must be a registered voter of the district which he/she seeks to represent for at least 30 days immediately preceding the deadline for filing nomination documents for the office of supervisor. Shall reside in the district during his/her incumbency.

Special Districts
Almonte Sanitary District Director (3 seats) / 4 years
Ross Valley Sanitary District (2 seats) / 4 years
Must reside in and be registered voter in the district.

Municipalities – candidates file with respective city clerks
City of Larkspur Councilmember (1 seat, short term)
Town of Ross Councilmember (3 seats, full term)

NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that the official Declaration of Candidacy forms for eligible candidates (except municipalities) are available at the Marin County Elections Department, Room 121, Marin Civic Center, San Rafael, California, from Monday, November 13 through Friday, December 8, 2023. Candidates may file their Declaration of Candidacy forms weekdays between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. and until 5 p.m. on Friday, December 8, 2023. In the event that an incumbent officeholder does not file for his/her office by December 8, 2023, the filing period will be extended for non-incumbent candidates for that office until 5 p.m. December 13, 2023.

NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that if there are no nominees or an insufficient number of nominees for any district office and a petition signed by 10 percent of the voters (or 50 voters, whichever is less) of the Special District requesting an election be held is not presented to the Elections Department, an appointment to the elective office will be made by the Board of Supervisors pursuant to Sec. 10515 of the CA Elections Code.

NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that early voting will be available at select vote centers starting 10 days prior to Election Day. All vote centers will open starting 3 days prior to Election Day. Check the Vote Center Information page for locations and hours of operation. All vote centers will be open from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Election Day, Tuesday, March 5, 2024.

NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that all ballots cast at vote centers and by mail in the Presidential Primary Election will be counted at the Elections Department.

NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN the first day to vote at the Marin Civic Center Elections Department and the first day for the Registrar of Voters to mail vote-by-mail ballots for the Presidential Primary Election is February 5, 2024. The Marin County Elections Department is located at 3501 Civic Center Drive, Room 121, San Rafael, California, 94903.
