Anthem Update

Welcome, Anthem Blue Cross PPO Retirees

Quality coverage and affordability for both retirees and employees is a priority for the County of Marin. The County’s current Anthem Blue Cross PPO medical plan has grown increasingly unaffordable in recent years, with large double-digit rate increases each year since 2015. Therefore, the County has decided to terminate current Anthem PPO plan at the end of the calendar year. This means your benefit coverage will change effective January 1, 2019.

For retirees enrolled in the County’s current Anthem PPO plan, the county will provide a one-time open enrollment so that current Anthem PPO plan participants may select a new benefit plan based on their Medicare status. The enrollment options include:

  • Medicare Retirees:
    • United Health Care (default for all Medicare retirees in the current Anthem PPO plan)
    • Kaiser Senior Advantage
  • Non-Medicare Retirees:
    • Teamsters Local 856 Health and Welfare Trust PPO (default for non-Medicare Anthem retirees)
    • Kaiser HMO
    • Western Health Advantage HMO

Please review the informational guides provided on this page to better understand the difference in benefit offerings for each plan. In addition, you’re encouraged to attend an informational session on Thursday, September 13 at 8:00a.m. at the Marin County Employee’s Retirement Association (MCERA) office at 1 McInnis Parkway, #100, San Rafael, CA 94903 to explore plan offerings further and to talk with a benefits expert in-person.

Open enrollment will take place October 15 through November 9, 2018. Please return to this page during that time for enrollment instructions. In the meantime, should you have any questions, please contact Shaun Meyers: (415) 473-6111.
