Board of Supervisors' Consideration of
Short Term Rentals
On July 18, 2017, the Marin County Board of Supervisors held a hearing to receive a report about short term rentals in the unincorporated areas of Marin and to consider next steps for creating a regulatory framework for short term rentals. Subsequent to this hearing, a subcommittee of the Board was formed to meet on an ad hoc basis with staff members from the Marin County Department of Finance, the Community Development Agency, and the County Counsel’s office. These discussions led to a staff proposal for the full Board to consider a short term rental Ordinance, which was the subject of Board hearings held on February 13th and March 13th, 2018.
Feedback from local residents and Board members led to postponing any decision on the Ordinance as it had been drafted. Since that time, the subcommittee has held additional meetings and County staff has revised the Ordinance to better address concerns and suggestions received during the previous Board hearings.
A first reading of the revised Ordinance is scheduled for the Board of Supervisors hearing on July 31, 2018 and a Board hearing on the merits of the Ordinance is scheduled for August 7, 2018. The most recent draft of the proposed Ordinance is provided through the link below.
