Project Description

The Corte Madera Flood Risk Management Project (project) was originally authorized under the Section 11 of the Flood Control Act of 1944 and the Flood Control Act 1962. The project was re-authorized under the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) of 1986 (PL 99-862, Section 823). The study area is located in the Corte Madera Creek watershed (also known as the Ross Valley watershed), Marin County, California. The watershed contains 42 linear miles of stream channels and covers approximately 28 square miles. It includes areas of unincorporated Marin County and the towns of Corte Madera, Ross, San Anselmo, and Fairfax. The portion of Corte Madera Creek included in the project is approximately 1.4 miles long. The Draft EIS/EIR includes a detailed analysis of five action alternatives and a no action/project alternative. The purpose of the project is to reduce flood risk from Corte Madera Creek. The need for the project is to reduce or remove existing water flow impediments and constrictions, thus providing a greater level of flood protection in the watershed.

Project construction is estimated to occur in phases from 2020 through 2025.
