Agreement with Muir Woods and National Park Service

Board of Supervisors

Meeting Date: 5/4/2021

Agenda Item #6: The Board will hear a request from the Department of Public Works to receive an update on the Muir Woods National Monument Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the National Parks Service (NPS), including an update on benchmarks identified in the MOU as well as ongoing improvements in and around Muir Woods and the Redwood Creek watershed. The County entered into MOU with NPS in 2015 to help with the long-term sustainability of the national monument, which pre-COVID-19 was visited by over one million people annually. The park is accessed via Muir Woods Road and Frank Valley Road, which are in the County’s road jurisdiction. DPW is responsible for aspects of transportation in that area and is working on behalf of residents affected by park traffic.

The Board received the update.
