The Board will hear a request to adopt a resolution recognizing Juneteenth 2020 in honor of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and the lives of all African Americans who have been senselessly murdered and recognizing the lives of African Americans who fight for freedom on an ongoing basis. Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. From its Galveston, Texas origin in 1865, the observance of June 19th as the African American Emancipation Day has spread across the United States and beyond.
The Board adopted the resolution and heard from several speakers.
