Board will receive a presentation from the Community Development Agency (CDA) regarding 2019 legislation related to creation of Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) and Junior Accessory Dwelling Units (JADUs). Then, in a separate agenda item, the Board will hear a CDA request to consider allow staff to waive and reduce fees for eligible JADUs and ADUs through December 31, 2020, and authorize the Board President to execute a $90,000 agreement with Baird & Driskell for the ADU Workbook and Website Project funded by an SB2 Grant. The County has been encouraging property owners in unincorporated Marin County to create affordable rental housing units on their existing property. Property owners planning to create new units could save up to $3,500 for qualified ADU projects and $1,500 for new JADU construction. The waivers would cover a significant proportion of permit costs, which averaged $8,600 in 2019.
The Board received the presentation about 2019 legislation related to ADUs and JADUs and approved and adopted the resolution to allow staff to waive and reduce ADU and JADU fees.
