Meeting Date: 11/19/2019
Preview
No earlier than 10:30 a.m., the Board will conduct a hearing for an ordinance to create a special parcel tax for 10 years to fund the Marin Wildfire Prevention Authority (MWPA), and authorize an election on March 3, 2020, for voters to consider the tax. Local fire professionals have collaborated with the County and Marin’s cities and towns to create the new authority with a singular focus to significantly coordinate and enhance local wildfire prevention efforts. On October 29, the Board adopted revisions to a joint powers agreement to be consistent with 17 other agencies that have agreed to join the authority. The tax would raise approximately $19.3 million per year for a variety of wildfire prevention programs.
Review
The Board conducted the hearing, approved the parcel tax and authorized the initiative's placement on the March 2020 ballot.
