Election for Special Tax to Fund Inverness Roadway

The Board will hear a request from the Department of Public Works to call for an election to establish a special tax for the Inverness Permanent Roadway Division Number Two. The Board is authorized to call for an election to levy a special tax. State law provides that at least two-thirds of registered voters must vote to pass a special tax. The Board has received a petition requesting the establishment of a special tax for roadway improvements in an area of Inverness that includes 48 parcels. Roads within the area are not maintained by the County and responsibility of maintenance falls to the fronting property owners. Should a special tax pass, it would result in assessments of about $1,383.70 per improved parcel and $691.85 per unimproved parcel for 10 years to fund road improvements.


The Board adopted a resolution calling for a special election for the Inverness Permanent Roadway Division Number Two on August 27, 2019.
