Shortly after convening no earlier than 9 a.m., the Board of Supervisors will hear a request from the County Administrator to launch the County’s new performance management program, Marin Compass. Responding to a need for a cultural shift and to replace the Managing for Results program, Marin Compass is designed to better connect the County, its employees and the community to its vast collection of data. Marin Compass will engage more employees in decisions, encourage the use of data in those decisions, and to communicate priorities and outcomes.
Review
The Board approved the program's launch.

The Board will conduct a first reading of a proposed ordinance adding Chapter 5.75 to the Marin County Code prohibiting the sale or offer for sale of flavored tobacco products and amending all existing Marin County Code sections that define “tobacco product.” Tobacco use remains the leading cause of preventable death in the United States, killing more than 480,000 people each year. According to Marin Health and Human Services, youth and young adults use flavored tobacco and vaping products more than any other age group. By decreasing access to these products, younger members of the community will benefit from not being exposed to the addictive effects of nicotine and the harmful chemicals in these products. Staff requests that the Board schedule a merit hearing for 10:30 a.m. November 6.
