The Board will hear a request to adopt a resolution proclaiming September 26 as National Voter Registration Day and September 25-30 as National Voter Registration Week in Marin County. The Marin County Elections Department has recruited from civic-minded organizations to create nonpartisan campaigns to encourage voter registration. An estimated 20,000 eligible voters in Marin are not registered.

At 9 a.m., the Board will hear a request to adopt a resolution proclaiming September as Hunger Action Month and request to receive report from the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) regarding food insecurity in Marin. Food insecurity affects 20 percent of Marin residents and disproportionately affects low-income adults, seniors and children. The HHS report will give some background on the Calfresh program and the results of the point-in-time count of homeless individuals.

The Board will hear a request to adopt a resolution proclaiming September as Recovery Month in recognition of mental and/or substance use disorders, to guide those in need to appropriate treatment and recovery support services. An estimated 26,000 people in Marin are affected by these disorders.

The Board will hear a request from the Department of Public Works to award a construction contract for the Marin County Civic Center Roof Replacement Project, with a total construction cost of $17,842,799. Designed by the legendary Frank Lloyd Wright, the 470,168 square foot building is the largest completed public project of the architect’s career and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Despite roof repair projects in 1999 and 2000, the membrane is fracturing and peeling, resulting in leaks and substantial fading of the iconic blue color.
