Purchase of San Geronimo Golf Course

Board of Supervisors

Meeting Date: 12/12/2017

No earlier than 11 a.m., the Board will conduct a hearing following a request from Marin County Parks to adopt a resolution confirming the County’s agreement with the Trust for Public Land (TPL) for the purchase of real property and certain improvements associated with the San Geronimo Golf Course. The County did not comply with Government Code noticing requirements prior to its November 14 agenda item on the property acquisition. County Counsel said the notices publicized for the previous hearing substantially complied with requirements, allowing the County to proceed with the transaction. Out of an abundance of caution, County Counsel recommended re-noticing for December 12 and Board confirmation of previous actions. On September 22, TPL, a national nonprofit, signed a non-binding agreement to purchase the golf course from the Lee Family Trust with the intent of selling and transferring the property to the County at a future date for park purposes. Marin County Parks is interested in restoring the property’s stream flow to natural conditions and creating a greenbelt linking the valley’s rural villages. The County estimates that $3.91 million of the purchase price would come from County funds with the remainder from outside sources. If sold to a private buyer, the property – which includes critical habitat for endangered salmon – could be developed into a resort or used for other commercial recreational purposes.

The Board conducted the hearing and adopted the resolution.
