Employee Team of the Quarter

Board of Supervisors

Meeting Date: 1/5/2016

The Board will present the Outstanding Employee Team of the Quarter award to the Civic Center Beautification Team.

Supervisor Rice read the following:

Our fellow employees went above and beyond their normal maintenance routines last summer before the Marin County Civic Center was toured and evaluated by a representative of the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) in mid-September. The Civic Center, a national historic landmark and the last major work of internationally-recognized architect Frank Lloyd Wright, is among a group of 10 Wright-designed buildings that have become the first works of modern architecture nominated by UNESCO for inclusion on the World Heritage List. ICOMOS will make its decision sometime in 2016.

In cooperation with the Frank Lloyd Wright Civic Center Conservancy, under a joint effort led by Parks and Public Works maintenance managers, a beautification team comprised of building maintenance workers, custodians, and landscape services workers went to work. The team meticulously cleaned, polished, pruned, planted, and painted, making the Civic Center building and grounds look like new. Staff received many comments of encouragement and appreciation from colleagues during the process. The ICOMOS representative was impressed at the superb condition and preservation of this 50-plus-year-old public building.

As we walk down the Civic Center corridors, we thank and wish to recognize the team for all its hard work. Members of the team were: Matthew Ballinger, Virginia Beauchamp, Jeff Bedoya, Allison Birrell, Ross Casico, Aniceto Cayanan, Julio Cifuentes, David Dibble, Donald Gallerani, Dennis Galvin, Michael Gibson, Martin Hollis, Eric Kress, Richard Leahy, Aaron Malilay, Justin Martens, Michael Moline, Gerson Navarette, Peter Norman, Jordan Rosenberg, Glenn Samson, Christopher Shand, Antonio Swan, Darren Taurins, Harry Thorgersen, Thomas Thorgersen, Brodie Thurmon, Edmund Vilago, Judy West.
